Chrysalis Theatre

Fueled by the intersection of theatre, dance and performance art, Chrysalis Theatre is dedicated to training, producing, and touring original dance and theatre works. This dedication has sparked interests in noise music, collage, found text, theatre, dance, gender bending, and site specific performance, resulting in four full-length pieces.

Welcome to the Official Chrysalis Blog

Welcome to the Chrysalis Theatre blog, the offical site for show updates, and sneak peaks into the Chrysalis process.

The 2005/2006 Season was the busiest yet! Genie, a solo dance piece about feral children, was presented at the Vancouver International Dance Festival on March 21st and 22nd to sold out houses. Thanks to Kokoro Dance, and to Video In for making us one of their artists - in- residence for 2006/2007. Stay tuned as Emma Hendrix,(sound artist) and Artistic Director Tanya Marquardt use the residency to make Genie into a full length dance.

Closing our season will be Lounge, a new site-specific musicial set in a lounge bar (Venue TBA). A Co-Production with Screaming Weenie Productions (Ilena Lee Cramer), Lounge features some of Vancouver's hottest young artists, including Tanya Marquardt (Chrysalis Theatre) and Joel DeStefano (Nocturne) as the lounge singer as her musician, along with dramaturgy by Kris Nelson and direction by Ilena Lee Cramer. Following one lesbian lounge singer’s search for home and true love during her last Canadian tour, Lounge features the croonings and lounge re-makings of songs from Queen, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Billy Holiday and PJ Harvey. The play will have its premiere in August 2006 as part of Vancouver’s Gay Pride celebration, so come and share a drink with us!

Chrysalis Theatre's 2006/2007 Season will be revealed in late August and so far is shaping up to be another amazing year. Until August I keep you waiting in anticipation....
